About Gaushala
Cow Seva Uday is a programme run by Maa Kaamdhenu Vatsalya Sewa Dham Trust, a non-government organisation formed to protect, feed & shelter ailing, starving, destitute and stray desi cows majority of which are abandoned by their owners or saved from butchers. We started with just 3 cows in the year 2007 in Champawat and presently we shelter and feed 185 cows.
Our gaushala is located in Lohaghat, a charming valley with scenic views of the surrounding verdant hills of Champawat district in Uttarakhand. Blessed with serene climate, lush greenery and pine and oak forests, Lohaghat is one of the best place for cows to drink the pristine Himalayan water and graze on the grass of this land. The town does have few ancient shrines that are visited by devotees.
Badri Cows
We have a total of 185 BADRI cows, Uttarakhand Indigenous species. This sturdy and disease-resistant breed is well adapted to the high altitude hilly terrain and the climatic conditions of Uttarakhand. They are only found in hilly regions of Uttarakhand. The Badri cows are considered auspicious and are also used for religious purposes. They are small-sized with a docile temperament. They graze on steep landscapes and have access to better quality grass and plants.
MKV Sewa Dham maintains proper cow sheds and provides love and care to mother cow. The organisation is entirely dedicated to improving the lives of cows, calf and bulls by providing them with periodical medical health checkups and most importantly treating them like a family member and not as an animal adopted from the abandoned spaces.
The organisation was incepted by Mr. Shankar Pandey with an aim to provide a home to cows where they can be protected and made available with a certain basic facilities.
With 6 people serving the cows round the clock, it is ensured that all timely requirements are taken care off. Apart from providing clean hygienic surroundings, fresh water and ventilation, great care is taken with regards to their diet.
